New Video from Katrina's birthday party

I know Katrina's birthday was already held on 16th of July but yet I found another video of the party with a few words from Govinda about the young actress.

Things moving for Showman: Shooting can commence

Govinda has finally attained his visa to visit the UK and start working for Tigmanshu Dhulia's movie which is - so far - titled "Showman" (Though I've read about four different titles for it by now, we will have to wait).
Towards IANS Govinda mentions: The film is about sting operations carried by TV channels. "I play a con artist. The film is about sting operations on television and other fake encounters that are such an important part of our lives today. Besides the fact that I want to work with Tigmanshu and I’ve a terrific role, my biggest incentive for this film is London."

Per rumors actress Rimi Sen is paired opposite him in an extraordinary role of the 160 kg woman, Vidya Malvade will also be part of Showman.

Dhulia has another project with Govinda up his sleeves: Fame with Sunil Shetty and Kay Kay Menon. For an ardent Kay Kay lover such as me this would be wonderful. But we will have to wait what's happening since Fame was already announced some time ago but nothing has really happened so far.

Ganesh speaks about Money Hai Toh Honey Hai & Govinda

In a recent interview with choreographer and director Ganesh Archaya he speaks about Money Hai Toh Honey Hai and working with Govinda. There are rumors that the two - who got along very good until now - will part ways after the last movie. Mumbaimirror quoted bigger disagreements between them during the shooting: Govinda also feels Acharya was influenced by another actor in the film. He says, “I don't want to name anyone. But Ganesh suddenly stopped listening to me and stopped interacting with me. Ganesh left me with no choice but to keep silent after that. But I’ll surely say this. My films usually speak a language of innocence and that was lost in Money Hai Toh Honey Hai. I thought I was doing a film about the team spirit; little did I know that so much bitterness would creep in.”

The newly published interview, though, sounds a bit different. Here's an excerpt of what Ganesh said to IndiaFM:

You have choreographed Govinda who happens to be one of the finest actor-dancer in the industry today. So, how was your experience directing him this time?
Frankly speaking, I have no qualms in saying that I have really learnt a lot from Govinda, even while I was directing this film. And not just Govinda, I keep on learning something from every artiste of mine, as for me, learning is a never-ending process. The one major thing that I have learnt from Govinda is the value of time and the aspect of timing…Well; I am talking about comedy timing (laughs). As for my film, Govinda has always been punctual for shoots. That explains why we were able wrap up the film so fast. I should also say that Govinda is nothing like what he was in the past. He has changed for the good.

I guess we will have to wait and see what happens next between the two.

Ganesh was also asked about the movie in general and Haniska's part of it:

What made you cast a young actress like Hansika (who is nearly less than half his age) opposite Govinda?
My film does not have the clichéd love angle. But let me also tell you that there is something that's really 'different' about this film, which you will realize when you see the film in entirety. That's the reason why age was not a criteria between the characters in my film. Let me also add that Hansika has been portrayed as never before. She is looking so piping hot in this film! I am sure that a lot of people would have changed their perception (about Hansika being a child actress etc…).

The film is a multi-starrer. How easy or difficult was it working with such an ensemble cast? As a choreographer, I have handled more than 12 stars at a time. So, in that sense, handling the big names was not at all an issue for me as all of them respect me a lot and vice versa. As for the actors of Money Hai Toh Honey Hai, I have earlier worked with Manoj Bajpai, Govinda, and Aftab. But it was a first time for me to be working with Celina and Hansika, but I must say that they were extremely hard working and damn good at their work. Our equation with each other had become so good that we literally partied every single day of our schedule in Mauritius, so much so that no one came to know when the film got over! I got full support from all my artists.

First Box Office Report & Review Summary for Money Hai Toh Honey Hai

Govinda's new movie Money Hai Toh Honey Hai with Upen Patel, Manoj Bajpai, Hansika Motwani and Celina Jaitley has made it to the big screen last Friday. Reviews were no good and the audience did not yet appreciate it either.

AllBollywood has - as always - counted reviews all over the internet from various sites. The momentary results are disastrous: 13 reviews have been counted, none of them giving either a good rating or an average one. Nearly all 13 reviews gave 1.5 to 1.0 points of 5, that's a 25% rating in total. "A couple of good gags interspersed with heaps of mindless buffoonery is all you get of your money’s worth from this lame comedy" states ApunkaChoice and Buzz 18 joins in: "It's not a movie you'll want to pay exorbitant amounts of money for. But if you have nothing else to do and can enjoy mindless movies at times, go for a cheap morning show for this one". - By far the best you can get out of these reviews.

The final Box Office result is yet to be determined but a first report sees no hope for the movie. The tickets on the first day were only sold poorly with an occupancy rate of around 20 - 25% in the cinemas. Due to the bad review this is not expected to get any better during this week. Overseas reports are disastrous as well - in UK Money Hai Toh Honey Hai was a complete failure only collecting £ 22,413 on 21 screens.

New pictures of Money Hai Toh Honey Hai

IndiaFM has once again added many pictures of Money Hai Toh Honey Hai. Of course there are more movie stills with the release of it. It's actually Aftab who looks dashing on these! But Govinda's not bad either. There's like one or two scenes I really can't wait for and even Esha's appearance looks great with every picture of it coming up!

Besides the movie stills there's a couple pictures from the sets, especially from the days which we've seen in the Making Of earlier - Celina's birthday party and the pool scenes. Each of them really worth having a look!

New interview with Govinda

There's a new interview with Govinda on ScreenIndia, again it's designed to promote Money Hai Toh Honey Hai but some of the questions are still new and interesting - for example the ones about his son Yash or blogging (which he does not want to do *sigh*)

Here's an excerpt of it:

You are repeatedly saying that lately you got to learn a lot. Elaborate.
You will notice a new, changed and polished Govinda in the films to come. I say it has been a learning experience for me because today I see things with a different vision. I feel this phase is like my new beginning as an actor in the film industry. This is my aagaman and my comeback.

You were one of the first film stars to get into television with Jeeto Chappar Phaad Ke. Are you open to more shows again?
Money hai toh honey hai. (laughs) When there is money why not do it?

Do you believe in blogging that is the in-thing today?
I feel since everyone is into it, I better stay away from it. (laughs)

Your daughter Narmada is now taking her first steps in Bollywood. What are your aspirations for her?
After Nammo met with an accident, she went into depression. I wanted to see her happy and so I decided to do anything for that. She too is trying her best and will soon be going to London to take lessons in acting. Fortunately, unlike me, she will not have to go through the rigours of a struggler.

What about your son Yash?
He is still too young to decide for himself but since the time I joined politics, he has faced facts of life from close quarters and now I feel he is like a grown-up boy who knows his mind.

Govinda in Ramayana?

Did I say evil role? HindustanTimes says that Mani Ratnam is going to do his new project based on the Ramayana! Mani Ratnam's next project will be an adaption of the Ramayan featuring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as modern-day Ram and Sita. The role that has been offered to Govinda is that of a modern-day human avatar of Hanuman. Vikram will be playing Ravan's part and in the Tamil version he takes Abhisheks role.

The Ramayana is a well-known Indian epic and tells about prince Rama and his wife Sita who is taken away by a demon king. After Rama has married Sita the new king of his father's empire is to be crowned but there are several sons, with Rama being the eldest. His stepmother, however, wanted to see her son Bharata, Rama's younger brother, become king. Remembering that the king had once promised to grant her any two wishes she desired, she demanded that Rama be banished and Bharata be crowned. The king had to keep his word to his wife and ordered Rama's banishment. When Bharata learned what his mother had done, he sought Rama in the forest. Rama refused to go against his father's command. Later in the story, Ravana, the evil King of Lanka, abducted Sita.

Hanuman, in this whole story, is of course a leader of the monkey who helps Rama to save Sita. Having a godly decent Hanuman owns magical powers and has been very popular with the people.

We are going to see how Mani is taking it into modern society! This would not be Mani Ratnam's first film based on an epic, earlier he made the Tamil movie Thalapathi with Rajnikanth and Mammooty in the leads, loosely based on the Mahabharata.

First Reaction of the audience to Money Hai Toh Honey Hai

The audience asked by IndiaFM does not find anything special in the movie either. They classify it as timepass and Govinda gets several nice comments, but that's it.

First Reactions To Money Hai Toh Honey Hai - MyVideo

More Reviews: Money Hai Toh Honey Hai

Two more reviews of Money Hai Toh Honey Hai - only supporting what the others have already said. Suranjana Nandi from Buzz18 even questions if Govinda will become the next Dev Anand. Please spare me with this!
"You may not feel like coming back with your popcorn at all. But if you finally re-enter the theatre post interval, you will find the six in a plush bungalow just near the sea. Govinda tries to swindle money out of the other five by selling them dreams. And then the villain Ravi Kissen tries to muddle things up…and the six come together and their struggle begins. The plot though a little rushed in the second half and hazed in parts, holds itself together. About the actors, Govinda as usual is great with comedy. And boy, can he dance! Even at his age (real age not reel), this man can give any of the younger ones a run for their money as far as dancing is concerned." That makes 1,5/5 points in total.

Following this general direction is glamsham's Martin D'Souza with 1,5/5 points as well.
"For the first half of the movie there is a connection being made between these main characters by director Ganesh Acharya who also appears in a song. Manoj Bajpai is reduced to doing buffoonery; Prem Chopra is being slotted for the most insane roles of late while Govinda must be wondering, where his 'Partner' is."

Money Hai Toh Honey Hai out now!

The day has finally come and the first mild reviews are coming in. Taran Adarsh from IndiaFM does not like the movie much: "Money Hai Toh Honey Hai is like flying in an aircraft without a pilot. You don't know where it's headed! Instead of sticking to the core issue, it meanders into meaningless sub-plots, which only add to the boredom. Govinda looks too old for his part. The role demanded a 20 + actor and Govinda looks completely out of place here. The age shows! On the whole, Money Hai Toh Honey Hai is a poor show. At the box-office, a damp squib!" In the end this leads to 1/5 points.

Another review which is already out is from NewzWatch on Bollywood-Buzz. Coming to the result of 4/10 points it sees Money Hai Toh Honey Hai as average movie. "The first half is extremely unpredictable and illogical and the audience keeps thinking something entertaining will happen. The second half has interesting parts in pieces but overall effect of the movie gets low for the initial part. A few songs are choreographed well and cinematography is average. The actor Govinda has kept himself busy in politics and that looks in his performance, he has turned old and pairing with actress like Hansika is a complete mismatch."

It's no wonder that they think this Govinda-Hansika jodi is no good. How could this have worked? The girl was 16 during the shooting. I don't see a way how this could work out other than a father and his teenie daughter. With an age gap like this and the gap not being the main theme of the movie there's no chance for it! Because you see that she's very young and that - actually - he's not!

Meanwhile Mission Instaanbul gets a very similar response from the reviewers, none really higher than 2/5 points and nothing good to write about. As for the reviews it seems that both have lost. We'll see about first Box Office results later!

Patcy N from Rediff comes to a conclusion of 1,5/5 points. Believing this review Money Hai Toh Honey Hai is too dramatic in the second half and all stars besides Govinda are wasted on it. Only recommended for Govinda fans. "Money Hai is not all about comedy, as you might expect from a Govinda starrer. It has a heavy dose of drama in the second half, which is a tad boring. The film should have been edited better. The director takes his own time to introduce each character, parts of which should have been cut down. The story finally starts only in the second half. Music is good, especially the song, Ta na ta na, picturised on Esha Deol. Govinda is the best among the lot. But where are his punchlines?
The rest of the cast - Aftab Shivdasani, Upen Patel, Celina Jaitely, Kim Sharma, Archana Puran Singh, Ravi Kissan and Viju Khote - are all wasted in the film."

Dialogue Promos of Money Hai Toh Honey Hai

Which day would be better designed to release Dialogue Promos for an upcoming day other than the day before its release? Yes, you're right - the day of its release. But it's not as worse as that, they're finally there. Most of them feature Govinda and various of his co-stars, there's just a single one without him and that's a scene with Manoj. And one of them is a bit more like a general promo.

A more general promo featuring all the stars:

Too much Govinda for my taste! If they rely on him too much the critics will not like it anyways and I am not sure about the audience. If this turns out to be a one-man-show with 5 co-stars it will probably bore them as well. Leaving this thought aside I like the general look of this! It sounds very much like the rare type of comedies I like.

This Friday - Money Hai Toh Honey Hai vs. Mission Istaanbul

Comming Friday we will see Money Hai Toh Honey Hai and Mission Istaanbul clash at the Box Office. The latter was shifted from it's original dates of the middle of June and 11th of July out of friendship by its maker to help Mehbooba getting a good stand at the Box Office (which failed). So these two will start together.

They are quite different from each other. While Money Hai Toh Honey Hai will be like a throughout comedy Mission Istaanbul is stated to have more action. Starring Zayed Khan, Vivek Oberoi and Shreya Saran in the lead roles it revolves around the life of the journalist Vikas (played by Zayed) who gets offer to work at an Istanbul based news channel. As he has just gone through a divorce he accepts only to find himself unable to leave the company again.

On the other hand there's Money Hai Toh Honey Hai - Ganesh's comedy flick with Govinda, Hansika and Manoj. It takes a look at the lives of six individuals - labeled as losers - who suddenly find themselves being shareholders of a company. But it turns out that the company in question has no success at all and it will be a hard to task to get something out of it.

There has been far more promotion for Mission Istaanbul - a whole bunch of Dialogue Promos and several Song Promos - while Money Hai Toh Honey Hai only kept the ball low. We'll see which of these movies does better at the Box Office. There's something to both of them, Money Hai Toh Honey Hai has the strange pairing of Govinda and Hansika Motwani (I still hope it will not be as worse as I imagine it to be) and Mission Istaanbul brings along sweet Tamil star Shriya Saran, last seen in Bollywood last year's Awarapan.

New Pictures: Govinda & David on Dus Ka Dum

Don't forget to watch the show on 25th of July 2008 on Sony Entertainment Television if you get this channel and if you're not heading from cinema, that is. The new pics coming up mainly show Salman and Govinda dancing and it looks great. I hope we'll get the online version very fast and the cinema start of Money Hai Toh Honey Hai will then be fun for all the fans out there who can't see the movie in cinema yet and have to wait for the DVD release.

You can see the new pictures on IndiaFM.

Mani Ratnam's new film to be made bilingual

Rumors we've heard of before are likely to become true. Mani Ratnam's new movie will be made in two languages - Hindi and Tamil. Vikram is supposed to do the male lead in the Tamil version, Abhishek having his role in the Hindi movie. Aishwarya will be starring in both, meanwhile Govinda is probably not involved in the Tamil version.

The interesting fact now is that Tamil star Prithiviraj has been signed for an important villain role in the Tamil version. Nobody can say for sure yet but if we are lucky this is the equivalent to Govinda's role!

Some weeks ago there was already rumor of him making another appearance with a throughout bad character. His only role like this up to date is Shikari where he used to play the evil man Om Shrivastav. He was nominated for Best Villain at Filmfare Awards 2001 and Best Performance in a Negative Role at the Star Screen Awards, but the awards went to Akshay Kumar for Ajnabee and Rajpal Yadav in Jungle.

Trust vote drama continues

An excerpt from TOI Article about the trust vote drama. Hopefully this whole thing is over soon, I don't like to read all these political articles anymore and I do not get the impression that it leads to anything good at the moment. And, of course, it delays shooting for Naughty @ 40.

"Govinda attended Lok Sabha proceedings on only one out of the 64 days in the last three sessions in the Parliament. How’s it going, considering the trust vote is almost upon them now? “It’s going great. I have been in Delhi for two-three days now. The mahol is perfect,” he says. “The country has to progress and it will, with the N-deal coming through,” he adds. A few days ago, when asked about the date of the trust vote, he had said, “I’m not too sure.”

Now, what does he think is g
oing to happen? “Dekhiye, wohi hota hai, jo manzoor-e-khuda hota hai. However, there is a positive wave towards India in the world. Everybody is looking at us and supporting us in this deal. And we need to be very positive in our thought process too. That’s the need of the hour,” he says. Apparently, Chi Chi had to postpone one of his shooting schedules for Tigmanshu Dhulia’s film in London to be present in Delhi for the trust vote. The producer of the film, Vinay Sinha, has confirmed that the shooting with Govinda would begin on July 23, but the rest of the unit would reach a day earlier. "

New Preview: Govinda & David on Dus Ka Dum

Still the broadcasting date is 25th of July at 9.00 PM IST on Sony Entertainment TV and now there's yet another "trailer" of the show with Govinda and David Dhawan - at their best as it seems!

IndiaFM also writes about the show: "The special episode promises to be a fun-filled experience as Salman and Govinda got together to rag David Dhawan about his films, his weight and his pot belly. They even took the credit for all of his hit films. But David was not one to let go so easily; he too remarked in his trademark witty style, "I have to deal with one hero who is known for his late-coming and the other who turns up at the studio but refuses to make an appearance on the sets." Needless to say both Govinda and Salman took no offence to David's comments."

Santabanta Interview with Govinda

Just 4 days to go!

Here's an excerpt from the SantaBanta Interview published on 18th of July. It's mainly about Money Hai Toh Honey Hai and repeating questions about the movie which have been asked over and over again.

Viewers expect a lot from you. Do you feel you would be able to meet their expectations?
No one can calculate the likes or dislikes of audiences. I liked the one-liner of this film. I also liked the songs of this film which are proving to be hit numbers. I totally believe that the viewers would love watching this film.

Ganesh Acharya has worked a lot with you as a choreographer. But what would you like to comment on him as a director?
Ganesh is trying hard to make a name for himself as a good director. He is really energetic. The film, too, has got a lot of freshness. To judge a good director is very difficult. Recently I also got an opportunity to work with Ravi Chopra.
Even now he desires to create some new things in his work. Even I am associated with this film industry for more than 23 years and like to learn something or the other with every film. I feel as if I have just joined the film industry.

What have you learnt until now being the part of Bollywood?
In which language would I describe what I have learnt! There are different languages like the one you speak, the one you see, the one by which you emote, the one about how you walk, etc (laughs).

[...]

We have heard that your daughter Namrata, too, is getting into films. How is she doing now?

A. I am happy that, proving herself to be my good student, she has decided to enter films. I want to make her aware of every part of this industry so that she wouldn’t have to struggle entering it. Very soon I would be sending her to America for an acting course.

We have heard that you are also working in a Bengali film titled Jewelry Box…
I haven’t signed that film yet and talks are on. - Ranjee Gupta

Govinda is fond of Amitabh

Within an interview with Santabanta Govinda has - again - expressed his liking for Amitabh. Months back he already supported the actor when he was criticized. His new praise for Bachchan resulted from a TV show where host Saroj Khan started to praise Govinda, comparing him with Amitabh.

"But why am I being constantly compared with Amitji. Main to naukar hoon. [I'm but a servant.]
He's the true king of the entertainment industry. I played the naam ka Raja Babu. He's the true Raja Babu."

And he also reacts to the constant use of his name in combination with Sarkar, Sarkar Raj and Ram Gopal Varma. The movies have a "Govinda theme" chanting "Govinda Govinda" all the time.

Though he's not willing to talk about it openly Govinda is also not amused by the constant reference to him in the context of the 'Govinda Govinda' chant in Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar and Sarkar Raj. At a recent awards function Govinda's picture was flashed on stage while the Sarkar Raj theme raged on. "I won't say anything more, " says Govinda diplomatically. "But I'll say this. God bless all those who are using my name for their own reasons. I'll also say this. Don't try the patience of a patient man. My willpower is about to give way. Now I've reached a stage where I'll react even if one hair on my head is tampered with."

Govinda and family visit Siddhi Vinayak Temple

I could not have said it any better, here's an article from IANS:

Bollywood star Govinda, his wife and two children prayed at the revered Siddhi Vinayak temple here for divine blessings as the actor feels his family has been facing a trying time. “I had taken a vow on my family’s behalf to hold a prayer ceremony at the temple. Too much has been happening too frequently and we need the gods to be slightly benevolent towards us. Now I feel the worst is really over. Things can only get better,” Govinda old IANS.

“It was something I’ve never done before in all my years in Mumbai. Of course I’ve a
lways been devout and I do believe in praying regularly. But I’ve never had a havan (fire ceremony) in a temple before,” Govinda said after the ceremony Thursday.

Ameesha Patel speaks about Run Bhola Run

In an interview with DNA India Ameesha also mentions the upcoming movie Run Bhola Run as her next project.

Talking about comic roles, Ameesha says that she has got one more in her kitty, “I am doing this completely crazy movie called, Run Bhola Run with Govinda.”

Thanks to Govinda that Ameesha could manage to take some days off for a holiday recently.

She says, “There were some issues with Govinda’s dates so the shoot had to be cancelled for 10 days. I happily took advantage of the situation and went off on a vacation to London and Paris.”

So this means that they are definitely trying to shoot the movie. The comic trhiller Run Bhola Run will star Tusshar Kapoor, Upen Patel and Tanushree Dutta besides Ameesha and Govinda. It is directed by Neeraj Vora of 2006's Phir Hera Pheri fame and seeing the amount of work Govinda has at the moment it will most likely not release before the beginning of 2009.

Con Flick is Showman now

Yesterday it was said that the finalized title of Dhulia's movie is Con Flick. Apparently, he has decided that its name is Showman now. The news was confirmed in an interview with IndiaFM:

“The film is now titled Showman which stars Govinda, Rimi Sen, Vidya Malvade, and Celina Jaitley. The film is set in London, and has a very tricky plot. The audiences will not know till the last as to which of the heroines will get Govinda. We are leaving for London for a month long shooting schedule.”

Sajid-Wajid will do the music for it.

Govinda & David on Dus Ka Dum: 25th of July

The show's broadcasting date has been changed to the end of this month, it's going to be on Sony Entertainment TV at 9.00 pm IST, 25th of July. Judging the whole thing by it's first advertisement in video form it looks hilarious and like a lot of fun. You can see David and Govinda dancing to Jeene Ke Hai Char Din from Mujhse Shaadi Karogi.

Title found for Tigmanshu Dhulia's movie

,According to Bollywood on Web Tigmanshu Dhulia's movie has finally been titled "Con Flick". Earlier news leaked that Rimi Sen would be paired with Govinda in a movie where she plays a 160 kg woman, him being a conman. Vidya Malavade and Kabir Bedi will also be part of this movie and - surprise! surprise - it's going to be a comedy.

Well, the title may not be the best they could find, but still there's a similarity between "Con Flick" and conflict, hope it will not be as dumb as the title is!

Dhulia will also be directing Fame with Govinda and Sunil Shetty, but there's no progress with this one yet. I still hope the idea materializes and we get to see Fame one day.

Money Hai Toh Honey Hai Soundtrack reviews

The Review of the album by IndiaFM reporter Joginder Tuteja is finally out. It also leads to an average rating with 2,5/5 points.

In entirety, Money Hai Toh Honey Hai is not one of your conventional albums that spell chartbuster from day one. In fact, the composers score brownie points where they dare to experiment but at a couple of places where they try to follow the 'masala' route (Rangeeli Raat, Dance Master), results are truly forgettable. Overall, the music here is more experimental in nature, which is a surprise considering the film is a hardcore commercial entertainer. Nitin-Sony create an urban sound that may not find an audience for itself on Day One but would take its own time to grow.

Meanwhile glamsham's Satyajit comes to similar conclusion (resulting in 3/5 points), they both emphasize on the fact that it's an experimental album altogether.

MONEY HAI TO HONEY HAI brings innovative feel of different genres of music coming together in one packaging and promising entertainment for both classy and massy set of listeners. Nitz "n" Sony makes remarkable presence through their works and do expect numbers like "Money Hai to Honey Hai", "Rangeeli Raat", "Ta Na Na" and "Awara Dil" catching fast with masses. The brilliantly rendered classy numbers like "No Big Deal" and "Hope (instrumental)" will surely be having major takers among multiplex "junta". The composer duo can find them in listing of worthy new composers of this year (Gourav Dasgupta, Chirantan Bhatt, Amit Trivedi) and are likely to be making more impact in coming years.

Narmada all set to study acting in the US

Now that Govinda's daughter Narmada has hopefully undergone her last surgery following the serious accident the children and their mother met in 2005, she is all set to leave for the US to study acting. We know that Govinda is very pleased seeing that his daughter is interested in a filmi career. It is also said that she will be an assistant director in a Rakesh Roshan movie soon. As Govinda is very close to David Dhawan this is a bit surprising but he does not believe that Narmada will reach out for comedy movies.

What do we know about Mani Ratnam's next movie?

Not much has been written about Mani Ratnam's forthcoming project yet. Abhishek and Aishwarya are definitely part of the cast. It was Mumbai Mirror as well, stating that they'd not be romancing each other this time. Back then, in March 2008, they also brought up the rumor that Tamil actor Vikram was casted for the movie. If this is still the latest status is not clear. Nevertheless the movie has been described as "romantic" and "love story" even "Mani's most romantic film to date" in February by IndiaFM.
Let's see how Govinda fits in there. Many other sources have reported today about him being in the movie. Mainly they repeat what has already been said in the Mumbai Mirror article.

Govinda signed for a Mani Ratnam movie?

Apparently, Govinda has signed a movie under Mani Ratnam's direction and we all know that this Mr. Ratnam usually does not direct comedies. So there will be another non-comedy Govinda movie soon. If reports are to be believed the movie in question is no other than the one which was in the news earlier, starring Abhishek Bachhchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Mumbaimirror quotes Govinda's opinion on the project: "I am actually doing a film with him! Isn’t it every actor’s dream to work with him? We met recently and I heard about my role. It is an interesting and a powerful role."

He seems very excited about the project and wants to surprise with his role, meanwhile I am not yet sure if this is a good idea. Ok, yes, Mani Ratnam is known for great movies such as Dil Se, Bombay, Guru and Yuva. But I cannot believe that Govinda will be a good cast among the Bachchans.

How well do you know Govinda?

The Rediff interview brought another short article of theirs to my attention, it's a test from 2005 about how well you know Govinda. The little quiz should be easy for someone who likes him. Unfortunately the movie they want to know about in question 4 has never made it to the big screens. The rest of the questions can still be answered properly. There's interesting Trivia to share if you guess the right answer. And they clarify in a good way about the Tan-Badan matter.

Govinda's uncle Anand, who was assistant to director Hrishikesh Mukherjee, launched him in his movie Tan Badan in 1986. Even as that film was being shot, Pranlal Mehta picked Govinda up for his teen romance, Love 86 in the same year and cast him opposite Neelam. But it was Pahlaj Nihalani's Ilzaam, released in the same year, that proved to be Govinda's first break. The film established him as a dancing star and fetched him a lot of acting offers.

Govinda Unplugged Rediff Interview

Rediff has published a very recent interview with Govinda mostly dealing with upcoming Money Hai Toh Honey Hai. Nevertheless it's interesting to read. Here's an excerpt of it:

Tell us about MHTHH.
I play Bobby in this film. Bobby wants to do something on his own but for that, he takes permission from his parents, which people usually don't. He takes his parents' permission for whatever he feels like doing in life. I don't know the film's plot though I have done the film.

Bobby has danced a lot in the film.
I don't have age by my side to permit me to dance. But all the songs are chartbusters. Before we started the film, I told Ganesh that we must do something so that we can make at least Rs 25 crores. That's the minimum figure I quoted -- it could even be Rs 40 crores or Rs 80 crores.

(...)

After Partner was declared a hit, you bagged many films.
It's because of God's mercy and I am really thankful to him. I work very sincerely these days. People often say that I get delayed for all my events. MHTHH is releasing after nine months, but that got delayed as well. It this film was to be made in the Madras style - it could have easily been completed in four months. How much more sincere can I get?

Soundtrack Review: Money Hai Toh Honey Hai

I had my time to get used to the songs, so here’s what I think.

01. Money Hai Toh Honey Hai (Nitz'N'Sony & Harshdeep Kaur)
This song is really giving me a hard time, I am no fan of all the new style music mixed with English and all. The vocals are good though, it’s something different for a start. Nevertheless the title does not convince me at all. 1,5/5 points

02. Awaara Dil (Adnan Sami, Shruti Pathak, Nitz'N'Sony, Arya, Bob, Ishq & Shantanu Hudlikar)
The beat of this song is nice but again the beat is too strong and I can’t stand those “non-sense” lyrics at all. Adnan’s voice is wasted on this title and the rap close to the end of the track is just too much. 1,5/5 points

03. Chhuriyaan (Labh Jhanjua & Sunidhi Chauhan)
The sole idea of Labh Jhanjua singing playback for Govinda is thrilling. In contrary to the first tracks this one sounds likeable. Sunidhi does a good job. The song is missing a chorus you could cling to, the rest is fine. 2,5/5 points

04. Ta Na Na (Kunal Ganjawala, Rekha Bhardwaj, Nitz'N'Sony, Earl E D & Arya)
Again there are these terrible rap lyrics somewhere in-between. Kunal singing for Govinda is just as cool as seeing Labh Jhanjua in the singer’s list. And getting Earl for this track was a good idea as well. I like Ta Na Na but it’s not convincing enough. 2,5/5 points

05. Rangeeli Raat (Daler Mehndi, Master Saleem, Sunidhi Chauhan & Arya)
By far the best track of the whole album, I can’t listen to Rangeeli Raat without standing up or at least do some finger tapping on the table – you just have to move to it! There’s something in this song that drives you to get into action. Wonderful song. 4,5/5 points

06. No Big Deal (Suraj Jagan)
The title is not forecasting the result, I like this one. It’s nice to see a quiet title on this album as well and this Suraj Jagan has an interesting voice. If only they stayed with Hindi... who needs the English lyrics? Actually, nobody does. 4/5 points

07. Dance Master (Shaan & Shivamani)
These days there needs to be a Shaan track on every album, isn’t it? Dance Master is a good track, I liked it right away. Nice style, good music and a chorus you can cling to. 3,5/5 points

08. Hope (Instrumental)
Instrumentals are something I never really like without seeing the scene they are used in. It’s a calm track, very contrary to all the others and even quiter than No Big Deal. I am curious how they will use it in the movie. 3,5/5 points

On the whole the music of MHTHH sounds better than last year’s Partner soundtrack, there are strong titles like No Big Deal and Rangeeli Raat and, on the other hand, also titles that I can’t really stand, like Awaara Dil. Average soundtrack, gets 3/5 points overall.

You can listen to the tracks online here.

Naugthy @ Forty

Apparently the new comedy of Jagmohan Mundra will not be called Excuse Me, Please. They are planning to register the movie under the name of "Naughty @ Forty". Remember, this is the Remake of The 40-Year-Old Virgin. While the shooting goes ahead at good speed, this title just sounds terrible. Who would really like to see a Hindi movie called Naugthy @ Forty? Well, not to speak of movies named Partner or Money Hai Toh Honey Hai. They've become a little bit too inventive these days.

Govinda @ Salman's quiz show "Dus Ka Dum"

Salman has already been hinting at this quite a lot, that he would be inviting other stars besides Aamir Khan. The show is running pretty well and the assistant vice-president of Sony Entertainment TV has now said that Govinda and David Dhawan will be seen in a show in August. The date is yet to be announced.

Aamir Khan rakes in the moolah for Dus Ka Dum

Danish Khan, assistant vice-president, marketing, SET India, says, "We are very excited by the kind of mass appeal response the show has delivered in the past few weeks. Riding on the celebrity factor, we will introduce more of the Bollywood elements into the show, like a combination of Govinda and David Dhawan pair in August."
